The Fieldhouse Green Scene
Carbon Neutral is where we are heading.
It may be a far reach for some, but having got to the level of sustainability that we have by being ESG conscious, not only as a business, but from our grass roots as a family, achieving a Carbon Neutral footprint is well within our grasp.
We are 99% fully recyclable within our factories, and 90% recyclable on site. This 10% is made up of the white goods that we have to bring into our final fit, and we are continually researching and sourcing more ethical and environmentally conscious companies to partner with to push that to 100% at our earliest opportunity.
We want to share with you a little more about our company that comes from the heart of our family. The environmentally conscious way in which we have lived for many years, and our small daily habits to try and make the world a better place for us all to live in, has naturally leaked into the work we do as a family business. The sustainability of our products, from the FFC regulated regeneration of the trees we use to source our timber, to the environmental protocols we follow in relation to the glues and resins we use in our production line, to the countless donations that we have made within our 25 years as a company ensures that nothing we use goes to waste. Whether that be our improved recycling system for chipping, scraps and clippings or the thousands of chairs we have donated to churches, hostels and charities, to the sofas, the beds and the soft furnishings we donate yearly to the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and to multiple refuges around the country, nothing gets taken for granted or disregarded without full and proper use, reallocation or redistribution.
If nothing else other than our desire to make the world a more pleasant place for us all to be in makes you want to work with us, then we see that as good enough reason as any.
Reinvestment in our planet, is reinvestment in ourselves, which is reinvestment in each other.
Process Our Process
In the beginning, making ESG conscious changes on a company scale seemed like something that we could do in the blink of an eye. Putting into practice the small daily habits that contribute to the large scale environmental affects we are achieving, was sometimes the hardest practice to implement and oversee. What we’re saying is, changing company policy and practice turned out to be easier to manage than reminding individuals to put their rubbish in the correct recycling bin, or to bring non disposable bottles and lunch boxes. We got there in the end though and now more than ever, our staff team are so conscious of their own individual social contribution that even new members of the team are excited to be contributing to the conscious environmental ethics that we practice.
Discovering Equilibrium
With our team fully on board with the ESG protocols that we have ingrained in the very heartbeat of the company, we now have an actively thinking staff force who are constantly putting forward ideas for improvement, working on ways to reduce our footprint even further and an entire team dedicated to the research and resourcing of more carbon neutral white goods to squeeze our 90% site recyclability rate up to 100%. One of the ways that we ensure that the non recyclable materials we use in our projects are still used to their maximum potential is to redistribute any unwanted products to services or people that may make continued use out of them. Beds to hostels, chairs to churches, sofa’s to dog homes, you name it, we will source the right home for whatever we have that has served its purpose for Fieldhouse but rest assured, that will never be the waste pile, never be a skip, never be sold on. Giving back, handing out and pulling together our resources to invest in and support others helps to reinforce the strength of the business that we have built.
Enhance and Invest
Vivienne Westwood famously said ‘buy less, wear more’. Fieldhouse believe in the same principle. We celebrate loyalty. We champion quality. We promote sustainability. Another way in which we have cemented faith in ourselves, our industry and the workforce that we continue to grow, is by offering a Graduate Scheme and Sponsorship Fund. Having always seen at least two graduates a year through their degree courses since the company began, we have recently partnered with Leicester University to formalise our scheme to not only to invest in our industry but to invest in a student who will be supported through their university education, and given a job offer with us at the end of their degree course. By nurturing our workforce from the very start of their further education, we believe that we continue to develop the family framework that our firm was borne out of.
